Join our Advanced 2-Day Mountain Skills Course, designed for women and underrepresented groups, in the beautiful Langdale Valley of the Lake District. This inclusive course will help you refine your mountain navigation, tackle challenging terrain, and build the confidence needed for advanced mountain adventures. It’s ideal for experienced hikers, those preparing for outdoor leadership qualifications, or anyone looking to enhance their outdoor skills in a supportive environment. Accredited by Mountain Training, this course includes night navigation and advanced mountain techniques to ensure you leave feeling confident in your abilities to safely navigate mountainous terrain, even in low visibility. Who is This Course For? Women and underrepresented folks in the outdoor community. Experienced hikers and hillwalkers. Individuals preparing for Mountain Leader or Hill & Moorland Leader qualifications. Those seeking to improve their mountain navigation and safety skills. Course Highlights 1. Advanced Navigation Map Reading & Compass Skills: Refine your map and compass techniques in complex terrain. Contour Interpretation: Navigate using landforms and subtle map details. 2. Night Navigation Learn to navigate confidently in low visibility with a head torch, focusing on safety and efficiency. 3. Terrain Management Safely traverse steep and uneven terrain, including ascending and descending challenging sections. 4. Mountain Weather & Hazards Interpret weather conditions and manage mountain hazards, including emergency situations. 5. Emergency Procedures Gain confidence in handling mountain emergencies, from navigation errors to dealing with injuries. Course Itinerary Day 1: Focus on navigation and terrain management, with a practical session on advanced map reading, pacing, and route finding. The day ends with a night navigation exercise. Day 2: Advanced mountain skills, group safety, emergency procedures, and decision-making in poor conditions, concluding with a course debrief and Mountain Training certification. What to Bring Navigation tools: Map (OS OL6), compass, head torch. Clothing: Waterproofs, warm layers, sturdy boots. Day Pack: Food, water, and essentials. We provide all group safety equipment and instructional materials. Cost & Booking Price: £155 per person (includes instruction, safety equipment, and certification).
